Celebdom And Motherhood - Sharon Stone

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 | Celebrities, Children, Entertainment, Fashion, Gender, Journalism, Justice, Law, Marriages, Media, Movie, News with No Comments »

Sharon Stone has been the daughter of controversy ever since she crossed or didn’t cross her legs in that notorious movie a couple of decades ago, which we all know. The smoking blonde has always managed to gain publicity whether negative or positive. This time however, she has gained a lot of negative publicity thanks to her bad mothering skills, which apparently are as much in mess as her. Californian officials have criticized and also rejected her request to change her child’s custody arrangements.

They have blamed her for overreacting to her son Roan’s medical issues. The court was especially infuriated with Stone’s suggestion that her son must be treated with botox as his feet were smelly. Now it has also come to notice that Bronstein will have complete custody over the boy and Stone may just have to worry endlessly if he would be taken care of by the jubilant father properly. The crux of the matter is not the custody of the child or Stone concern for her son’s health but the fact that celebrities usually end up over reacting to every tiny incident no matter what.

Probably, the entire attention and media glare showered and sometime forced upon them make them notice even small changes and worry about that endlessly. Probably the celebrities must be left alone and allowed to live a life in privacy. And the ones that like to be in the media glare are best avoided.

Marriage, Leonardo and Ageing

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 | Celebrities, Children, Controversy, Environment, Fashion, Marriages, Media, Movie, World with No Comments »

Sometimes, a busy life and an equally attention providing lifestyle can make one seek solace in things that are more mundane and banal. Take the example of Leonardo DiCaprio. He recently admitted that he would like to settle down and take a break from it all. In fact, the guy has been so much under the spotlight that he probably needs to become a hermit. Leo is tired of traveling around the world and living on the movie sets and he feels that he has lost the meaning of life and what it is like to get married, have a family and settle down.

He has been dating the Israeli model Bar Rafaeli on and off and he has many a times spoken against marriages. However, the fact that now he is interested in settling down suggests something else about marriage and the institution of family. It could be a refuge where you take rest and relax, after having loads of fun elsewhere. In fact, it has been proven scientifically that those that have been professionally, sexually and socially active in their younger days look for the quiet and calm a marriage and family provides.

It must have something to do with our evolutionary process. Propagate the genes as much as possible when you are young, and once you get old, you will need to relax and be at home and make way for younger genes.

Fran Healy, Travis, Ode to J. Smith and Baldness

Thursday, September 25th, 2008 | Art, Celebrities, Controversy, Entertainment, Fashion, Gender, Health, Media, Movie, News, Sex, Television, World with No Comments »

There has been a lot of discussion about men going bald and losing charm. However, if there is a standing example to the fact that hair really doesn’t matter as long as someone is really capable of attracting attention through other ways, it has to be Fran Healy from the Scottish alternative rock band Travis. The man behind singles like ‘Why does it always rain on me’, ‘Sing’, and many others, has publicly stated that he doesn’t worry about getting old or not looking as great as he used to.

Well, I couldn’t agree more with such great music he and the guys make and also his deep blue eyes. I just wish Travis’ new album ‘Ode to J. Smith’ gets released soon and we can listen to what is being called the greatest alternative rock album to be released in 2008. The album has already received critical acclaim and a favorable critical mood.

For now, I would say baldness or any other matter really doesn’t matter as long as a man remains committed to his true mission and talents, be it music or politics or sports. Showbiz unfortunately has concentrated more upon a celebrity’s looks rather than the talent behind what makes him or her a celebrity.

Personal Lives of Celebrities and Privacy: Have We Crossed the Limits?

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 | Celebrities, Media, News with No Comments »

Lindsay Lohan

If there is anything that intrigues me the most, it has to be the way celebrities’ personal lives are handled by the media. Take for example Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson’s relationship and the coverage that media is providing. It really doesn’t matter if the two held hands or kissed in public. In fact, they might just be doing it for publicity and having the last laugh, while we read about their antics hungrily. The attention that celebrities and their antics get is quite just the reason why they behave in that manner!

Though it may be harmless and helps a lot of people make some money writing about them, it makes one if one must draw a limit. If we choose to ignore the celebrities, they really might behave in a way we wouldn’t associate celebrities with.

Nevertheless, a person’s privacy must be respected too and when things get too personal, one must know to stop. That would help us avoid a lot of embarrassing situations, especially if the stories that writers build turn out to be false and inaccurate.

Too Good(y) To Be Real

Thursday, August 14th, 2008 | Celebrities, Controversy, India, Media, News, Television, World with No Comments »

Jade Goody
Once again, we are forced to ask if the real life shows are actually real? A few days ago, we reported Shilpa Shetty being asked to play host to the Indian version of Big Brother called Bigg Boss. Well, there is more to that. Now the infamous Jade Goody, who was pummelled by the world for bad-mouthing Shetty on Big Brother a year and a half ago, too will be on board at Bigg Boss. Apparently, she “wants to clear her name”. There is more to the drama. A source close to Goody has quoted, “Jade was a bit anxious about how the Indian public would react but she finally gave in, as a chance to clear her name.”
So, does the buck really stop there? News is that the British celebrity is being paid £ 100,000 for taking part in the show that will run for three months. It’s a lot of money but perhaps, the unavoidable confrontation between Shetty and Goody will prove to be even more valuable for the makers of the show. Let’s wait and watch.

Finally Aamir Gives In To An Award

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 | Celebrities, Controversy, Entertainment, India, Movie with No Comments »

Actor Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan accepts awards on his own terms. How else will you explain possibly the first ever Indian film award that the acclaimed actor received himself! The country sat in shock yesterday when Khan graciously accepted the 11th Golapudi award for ‘Taare Zameen Par’ from film veteran K Balachander.
We have grown up listening about Khan’s anathema of awards because he doubts the authenticity of the selection and winning process. Well, he isn’t the only one to believe that. The reigning clout in Bollywood does seem to take the call on who should get the award and who should not. But aren’t times changing a little. C’mon SRK doesn’t bag an assured award every year. I don’t mean to target him as I’m a loyal fan. But thinking objectively, there have been breaks in his award-winning career that suggests the growing transparency in the Indian award system.
We all know Aamir made an exception once before the Golapudi when he participated in the Oscars in 2001 with his film ‘Lagaan’. On that note, I would like to ask Aamir how transparent does he think the Oscars are? C’mon after Heath Ledger’s death people have already declared him a winner at the Oscar this year. Why? Maybe the scandal involved in his death, could be one reason, I’m not sure.
My point is, Aamir films are about pleasing the masses or should I say popularity that it enjoys. The awards cannot be decided along a strict guideline. It’s the ‘clicking’ that usually works because we are talking about the art of filmmaking here. So, why don’t you give Indian film awards a chance? Make an appearance at award functions and please your fans. Frankly, we are quite tired of Sajid Khan poking fun at your poster and of you not ‘giving permission to show a clip of TZP in a film nomination’ in awards hosted by SRK and SAK.

Do the Shilpa Shettys really need a Big Brother?

Thursday, August 7th, 2008 | Uncategorized with No Comments »

Shilpa Shetty
The news arena is abuzz with Shilpa Shetty playing the host in the Indian version of Big Brother called Big Boss. Don’t worry, I won’t go at length to talk about how the almost forgotten actress got international recognition once the Jade Goody controversy (a lot of newsprint has already gone into that). Well as a part of the perks that came with her ordeal at the show, Shilpa even got invited to one of the royal events in the UK and met the queen herself. Not just that, an honorary doctorate from Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom for Dr Shilpa Shetty was followed by the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award. Well. that is not really my point here though. Many believe that the Big Brother stage is a ‘planned’ drama. In fact, even when Shilpa was just being invited to Big Brother as a participant, people had already predicted who the winner would be. And I must tell you, they weren’t wrong.
This was followed by Shilpa’s kissing incident with Richard Gere which caused a furore against both the actors in India, as the gesture was a li’l too loud for the Indian sensibility. The effect was simple. An almost obscure Shilpa who used to do one non-descript film every two years got roped into a lot of film projects. She suddenly became very popular. I am not here to pin the poor girl down who made viewers across the world sympathise with her as she shared her woes with tears on an international channel almost a year and a half ago. Nor am I saying she is a terrible actress. All I want to imply is that Shilpa did a tremendous job in ‘Phir Milenge’ but only ‘Life in a Metro’ caught attention. Any guess why?

Daddy Lohan Doesn’t Approve Lindsay

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 | Celebrities, Children, Controversy, Marriages with No Comments »

Lindsay Lohan with alleged lover Samantha Ronson

Speculation has increased on the supposed union of troubled actor Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson but majority still believes it to be another publicity stunt. However, that doubt could not stop Lohan’s creepy dad Michael, who in his own words “has been too much in therapy”, from going to the media about it. Well, he doesn’t approve of his daughter’s move but then shouldn’t he be certain of her intentions before making comments about her life.

Almost two months ago, Michael went on record saying, “My daughter is a big girl, and she can make her own life choices. Then it is between her and God”; when he was asked about the SamRo relationship. Apparently Michael has now decided to be a little less open-minded – though deliberately vague in his comments. Because that’s a better way to get press. Also, there’s just this tone of “wanting her to be happy” and “staying on the right path” and considering how sanctimonious he is, you can’t help but think he’s implying that being in a gay relationship is something other than the right path.

Paris Hilton Does Not Spare John McCain

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 | Celebrities, Controversy, Democracy, Entertainment, Government, Media, News, Politics, World with No Comments »

Paris Hilton

The war of the political ads grows more intense with US presidential elections just three months away. We all saw how Republican John McCain used Paris Hilton and Britney Spears without their permission in a campaign ad that targeted opponent and Democrat Barack Obama by equating him with the two babes. While Britney chose to ignore the matter, Paris certainly wasn’t happy being dragged into the mudslinging. So she retaliated with another ad. Well, I’ve never been a Paris Hilton fan but yeah, I do like the cheek she has shown in this attempt.
The ad opens with a voice over declaring that John McCain (the male voice doesn’t take the name, but it’s clear who is being talked about) is the oldest celeb in the world. Then Paris thanks “the old guy with wrinkly hair” for considering her an able candidate for American presidency. And she also agrees that she is not old and is ready to lead. But she does maintain a diplomatic stance on the energy issue by suggesting a hybrid between Obama and McCain’s ideas. That is smooth. And guess what, the ad ends with a classic Paris Hilton…”Oh, you wouldn’t mind if I paint the White House pink. I think it will be hot.”

Is The Dark Knight Jinxed?

Monday, August 4th, 2008 | Celebrities, Controversy, Entertainment, Media, News with 1 Comment

Late actor Heath Ledger as the Joker
After actor Morgan Freeman met with a serious car accident, the grapevine is abuzz with fears of a curse trailing The Dark Knight. Freeman portrays Lucius Fox in the film. The shock was too much for the film buffs to bear, especially after the untimely death of Heath Ledger, who immortalised the Joker in the latest Batman film, in January this year. Experts say it was an accidental prescription overdose that killed Ledger who suffered from chronic insomnia because he was haunted by his work in the film. In fact, Ledger had even admitted in interviews that he had tapped into some very disturbing elements of his psyche to play such an intense role. Eyebrows rose even further when the lead star of The Dark Knight, Christian Bale, who is a very private star, was troubled by an old unresolved family feud taking over the media. His mother and sister made a private altercation public and even filed assault charges.
Many believe that Warner Brothers, who have been infamously trying to profit off the tragedy of Heath Ledger’s demise, is getting its due. Is it really a series of unfortunate events?
