bajrang-dal

I am worried about terrorism in India. Not just Islamic, which without any questions and doubts does get addressed and taken adequate action against, but also Hindu terrorism, which always escapes from the grip of authorities for lack of hard evidence. Honestly, if nothing is done about the situation in Orissa we shall probably have yet another terrorist group, but this time participated by Christians.

The ‘gorious’ work of the Bajrang Dal in Orissa is not a figment of anybody’s imagination. Innocent people are murdered in cold-blood, burnt alive, nuns raped…do we really need more facts to take a call against the religious group? PM Manmohan Singh wants to ban the group immediately but defiance within his party is problematic because they fear the BJP may reap dividends out of it. So, in the political plotting nobody really suffers but people like the Armyman who fought for our country in the Indo-Pak and Kargil War; his paralysed brother gets torched by fanatics chanting “Jai Hanuman” in Orissa.

Same is the case in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena is known for its violent beliefs that are backed by equally violent methods. But no one dares to do anything about it. In fact, people are so scared that even prominent actors join the Bal Thackeray clout with slogans of “Jai Maharashtra” in film concerts. And these days, there is the off-shoot of the Shiv Sena creating ripples across the country with its dogmatic regionalism. Raj Thackeray and his Maharashtra Navnirman Sena are doing their bit about ‘cleansing’ their state. North-Indians are forced the flee, shopkeepers are tortured to keep Mararthi names of their stores, cable operators are forced to provide only Marathi channels…. And the establishment does nothing. Even Bombay High Court expressed its disappointment in the protectors of law, who always never find evidence against the rich and the influential.

SIMI was banned in 2001 because of its involvement in terrorist activities. Yep, they dealt in bombs but hey, aren’t arson, muder, rape, force, emotional and physical torture also a form of terror. The whole nation united against the attack by SIMI last month forcing the establishment to pull up their socks, why is everyone mum over Orissa and Maharashtra? Wrong should be treated like wrong, whether committed by a minority or a majority. The law should treat all, ALIKE!
