Feminism Women liberation is a very interesting concept. What does one make of it? Well to the layman…err…person it would mean recognition of the capability of womanhood. Yes, the woman of today can do anything. Be it joining the army, going into space, running a house or even a multi-national company, she does it with a panache that is so envied by the opposite sex.

But does that mean they do not appreciate romance and chivalry in men? Do they not expect their man to not open the door when she’s with him or whisper sweet nothings in her ear? It is not a mushy outlook but more a question of social significance. Do no longer women like to hear that “they are beautiful” from the man they love?

Let me give an example, and please do not dismiss it as juvenile. When I was a teenager, I remember reading one of the many Nancy Drew (remember the smart, red-haired girl who forever remained eighteen) detective books. In that particular text, Nancy’s boyfriend decides to leave her because he feels that she no longer needs him. Naturally Nancy is shattered, but her boyfriend fails to understand the impact his absence will create in her life. I am not putting Nancy on a pedestal, but her characteristics are things that most women will vouch by. So, tell me can feminism walk over chivalry?
